Rainy Day Style
One of the earliest dressing challenges I faced when moving to Texas was dressing for a rainy day that was also warm. I’ve learned to layer and invest in lighter jackets that can hold up in the rain. This outfit is a perfect example of dressing for the weather and still embracing my personal style.
A slip dress is one of my secret weapons. They’re light enough to layer under jackets, sweaters, or skirts, while providing full coverage. I own several slip dresses in black and white that I would never wear on their own, they’re purely for layering. This beauty, however, is from Kate Spade’s Target collaboration. The bow detail and hot pink color make it a perfect summer dress, as well as one I want to show off if I decide to remove my jacket.
A lightweight trench coat is another rainy day must. This one is from Target’s Isaac Mizrahi collaboration and it’s even lighter than it looks. Another go to for humid weather is this sheer trench.
The only part of this outfit that’s maybe too warm is the boots, but closed-toe shoes are non-negotiable in the rain. By keeping the rest of my outfit airy and light, I struck a nice balance. I did end up taking my coat off inside, because it was too warm, but I threw my trench back on when out and about in the rain.
